Maple Milk Cubes with Cacao Nibs

These cubes are also ideal for when a hot coffee reaches that awkward lukewarm temperature!

SHARE TO:

If you don’t chug your iced coffee, you know how it starts to taste more and more watered down as the ice cubes melt (especially if the cup is half ice, half coffee).

One simple, yet clever way to combat watery coffee is with coffee ice cubes – the flavor remains strong and constant no matter how quickly or leisurely you drink your coffee. But what about coffee that gets better AS you drink it?

That’s what you can expect when an iced coffee is topped off with these Maple Milk Cubes! The subtle maple sweetens as the hints of nutmeg and cinnamon warm and complement the swirling notes of vanilla to create a rich, complex flavor.

After the caffeine is consumed and the cubes are melted, the crunchy, nutrient-dense cacao nibs are leftover at the bottom waiting to be munched on. Cacao nibs are an acquired taste and definitely have a bite to them though, so feel free to skip out on those if you’d like.

Cacao nibs or not, these maple milk cubes are made for people, like me, who prefer to sip and enjoy their coffee as they go about their mornings. Not only limited to iced coffee, they’re ideal for when a hot coffee reaches that awkward lukewarm, borderline cold temperature – add a small handful of cubes and a sipped hot coffee transforms instantly into a flavorful iced coffee!

These maple milk cubes pair all too perfectly with Wandering Bear’s organic cold brew (non-organic coffees can contain myotoxins and mold!).

Not only is Wandering Bear *beary* strong (Grant calls it jet fuel), but they NEVER add sugar, even to their flavored coffees – which is hard to believe when you taste their vanilla or caramel cold brew! Most flavored coffees are full of added sugar, take a look for yourself next time you’re at the grocery store or gas station. So to not have any sugar added? That’s a game changer and total gold mine in the coffee world. It’s undoubtedly one my top two favorite coffee brands (the other being JOT) and WB was kind enough to give me a code to share, SU10, so you can save if you’d like to try some and see what all the fuss is about!

You can watch a video for this recipe here (where more than one person thought they were bath bombs LOL) and for another nutritious coffee staple suitable for both iced and hot coffee, take a peek at the Protein Coffee that was my must-have every single day for YEARS!

If interested, the macronutrients are below. They are kept separate at the very end of each recipe blog so that this can remain a safe, positive space for all as not everyone wishes to see the nutritional information.

Macros: 12.9 C | 14.3 F | 5.3 P

The macros were calculated using a nut milk with only 2 ingredients; nuts and water. A majority of dairy-free milks that stock the shelves of grocery stores have thickeners and other ingredients added to them. Those additives can disrupt our digestion and gut health. That’s not to say they’re terrible and you need to cut them out, but personally, I like to choose products with minimal ingredients as much as I can! My favorite nut milks are JOI (Just One Ingredient, an almond or cashew base that can be used to make homemade DF milk, soups, sauces, smoothies, dips, and other recipes – my code SU10 saves on any sized order) and Elmhurst. Note that if a more common dairy-free milk is used, the carbohydrates and fat in the macros will decrease considerably, but the taste won’t be noticeably impacted.
